Manage my iPod without iTunes
Posted: 2008-06-28 11:12:43
Fed up with the fat size of iTunes (148 Mb with QuickTime) and its flashy store, I woke up this morning with the goal of comparing all free iPod managers I could find that would allow me to add songs to my iPod without screwing up my iPod menus and, if possible, with an interface that would be closer to the one of the iPod itself, as I'm frequently disappointed by the organization of my iPod songs, which is not what I expected when I managed them from iTunes.

John Smith - our expert How do I sort MP3 files? I want to organize my music col
Posted: 2008-06-25 11:58:08
Computer is a great device for storing and playing music. While with CD players you should look for a particular disc on your shelves or racks (or, perhaps, it is somewhere in the cellar?), take the disc out of its case, press a button on your CD player, insert the disc, and so on, computer can start playing immediately. Moreover, it can play a mix of your favorite songs, and you can change the playlist at every moment without need to burn another CD. That's the reason why many people rip Audio CDs that they purchase and save the tracks as audio files on their computers. However, it is easy to get into situation when you need to sort your files. For example, you may have ripped all of your songs into one folder. It was easier that way, and it was OK while there were not many files. But as your collection grows, it becomes really hard to find anything there. So, you may want to create a directory structure. Is there an easy way to do that? Sure. You just need a program like mp3Tag that can handle both meta information and filenames. We will consider a situation when your files are already supplied with ID3 tags, like title, artist, album etc. If ID3 tags of your files are empty, mp3Tag can get all required information either from the Internet, or from filenames. However, that's already another question.

M-AUDIO busts out Torq MixLab Digital DJ System
Posted: 2008-06-13 09:32:19
If you'd like to dip your toes into the DJ waters without dropping a couple Gs on a bunch of equipment you can't even figure out how to work, you might want to look into M-AUDIO's new $99 Torq MixLab. The digital DJ setup ties in with M-AUDIO's (included) Torq LE software, which allows you mix between MP3, AIFF, WAV, WMA, Apple Lossless and AAC files on your computer. Beat matching can be automatically performed by the software, and the control board can mess with speed, pitch, EQ and a trio of effects. We got a chance to see the unit in action on Tuesday, and while most things were taking place in software, the controls were quite responsive, and everything seemed quite intuitive. Keep on reading for a few action shots.
