Could someone create me a 3d chrome image of a Orienteering control? You can see pictures of a real Orienteering control [ Register or login to view links on this board.] to base your image on. It has a triangular base, and rises up like a triangular column. The sides are split from upper corner to the opposite lower corner with white and orange on either side of the divide. I was hoping it could be aligned like the one in the photo "Obag8", but maybe with the front corner facing a little bit more forward. Kind of "in-your-face" if you know what I mean. There should be no colors in the logo, just two different levels of silver to differentiate between the white and orange areas of the real control.

The logo should be about 100x100 and on a transparent background to fit in with the background it is going to be on. If you want to have an idea of where it is going to be, take a look at [ Register or login to view links on this board.] . The logo will go just above the current written logo unless you think you can do better and add writing to your logo. In that case, include the text TheWaterStop.org Bringing Junior Orienteers together. If you do include the text, please make it exactly 165x184.

Oooh, and if you could do it in Flash and make a glint effect run across the top edge of the control I would be thrilled! But that isn't too important.

Thank you so much if you can help me. My 3d editing skills are so primitive I wasn't able to make anything close to what I wanted.

Woot! That is absolutely perfect, the only thing is that it appears on a white background when I import it to Flash. can you put it on a transparent background so that it will fit right onto the background that it is going to be placed on?

Thanks so much for your help.

The image does have a transparent background. Be sure you save it as a .gif file when you download it. It should then import into Flash with a transparent background.

Weird, when I click download, it opens the image in a new window, with the url ...orienteering.gif. When I click Save Picture As, it only gives me the option to save it as a bmp image. I typed orienteering.gif and hit save, but in the drop down box below the only option was .bmp. There was no All Files option which usually allows you to specify to extension. Any way I can download it without saving it as a BMP?

/* Edit
Never mind that. I was being silly. You have to right click on the download link and click Save Target As. It works fine now, thanks.

Just curious. What program did you use to make that image? Do you use a special 3d editing program, or do you just have crazy photoshop skills? icon_cool.gif

Also, on another note, is there any way to get a glint effect in flash on an image? I am trying to get a glint to run along one of the top edges of the control, but the only glint tutorials are for text and don't really apply to images. There must be a way though. You have any ideas?

I used Photoshop to create the Vector shapes and then applied various bevels and filters to achieve the chrome look and the highlights.

The glint effect only works for text as far as I know. I've not seen it applied to an image. Red would know better than I would though.

It is possible to Glint an image, but it's a little more tricky than text.
Basically you'll have to break apart the image in Flash, then manually erase the parts of it that you don't want to Glint, then convert it to a Symbol.
This is because the Glint effect relys on masking, and an image, even a transparent one, doesn't work in the same way as text. In effect, the whole image is 'Glinted', hence the need to remove parts of it. icon_eek.gif
