i went to my site and got the nuke screen that says the mysql server is experincing difficulties and site should be up shortly. but then i got there 5 min later and it works. is this a problem with my site or some type of server problem?

That's server side, maybe the host was upgrading or rebooting. Nothing to worry about unless the site doesn't come back online.
