They only did a small bit of damage that was easily repaired but, they used something called C99Shell which they accessed the entire system via the admin_styles.php file.

Does anyone know how I can secure that other than removing the forums/admin directory?

Hello

I see you using a very old version at your sites (v 2.0.10 its very out of date ! ) i strongly recommend you to update it to latest version which v2.0.18 .You can find the updates at [ Register or login to view links on this board. ] (check their downloads for BBtoNuke(versions)
please back up before start and after each update.

I dont know if you patched your php nuke version to the latest patch level ? (v3.1)
I also recommend update your NukeSentinel to latest one ( v2.4.2)

As for PHPBB, I am attempting to update to latest now but, everytime I run the update to latest.php file, it comes to the "please read the instal.htm" before continuing and then nothing so, meh. Frustrating it is.

I am working on updating the other stuff you mentioned as well so, for now, the admin folder just wont be there until I need it.
