Hi i have a flash template that i would like to use on my site.

It comes with all the files etc.

The problem is this. How do i edit the swf to show my button names and urls? What proggrame would i need to do this

You can't edit a .swf file...you need the souce file which is a .fla file, then you need whatever version of macromedia flash (software) that supports that particular .fla file.
