Adobe, one of the top manufacturers of image editing software, has created a new format for digital images that will save the data in raw file formats to allow professionals more freedom to control the various aspects and key details of raw image files.

The DNG or Digital Negative Specification format will save the image in higher details without distorting the image quality. Most importantly is the fact that this format will be supported by various devices to ensure proper compatibility throughout various platforms.

the DNG format is based on the TIFF EP standard, which includes a metadata that will store information about the camera and its settings. This format will have support for newer hardware and software devices as they become available in the market.

As of right now, Adobe is offering a .DNG extension for its popular Photohop image editing software free of charge. It has also released few updates that will include support for many high-end cameras from Canon, Nikon, Epson, and Fujifilm.
