echo "<META HTTP-EQUIV=\"Content-Type\" CONTENT=\"text/html; charset="._CHARSET."\">\n";

This is your character set. To do with language.

echo "<META HTTP-EQUIV=\"EXPIRES\" CONTENT=\"0\">\n";

it is to do with when your site expires. 0 = never*

echo "<META NAME=\"RESOURCE-TYPE\" CONTENT=\"DOCUMENT\">\n";

Type of files used (.html/.php, etc). *

echo "<META NAME=\"DISTRIBUTION\" CONTENT=\"GLOBAL\">\n";

Which countries is this site made for? Global = all countries

echo "<META NAME=\"ROBOTS\" CONTENT=\"INDEX, FOLLOW\">\n";

This is to do with the search engine robots. Index = crawl your index for content/ Follow = come back again*

echo "<META NAME=\"REVISIT-AFTER\" CONTENT=\"1 DAYS\">\n";

This is how often the robots should visit your site.

echo "<META NAME=\"RATING\" CONTENT=\"GENERAL\">\n";

What type of content is on this site (Music/Hosting, etc) *

*this is what i think

Yeah you should put it in your mainfile.

One small correction:

Quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
echo "<META NAME=\"ROBOTS\" CONTENT=\"INDEX, FOLLOW\">\n";
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is to do with the search engine robots. Index = crawl your index for content/ Follow = come back again*

This tells search engine spiders to index the page and follow the links on the page throughout the site. This tag isn't really necessary since it's the default behavior anyway.

Here's a good resource for meta tag information:

Look inside your includes folder for meta.php. That's where the meta tags are.
