Severe lag on slower machines.. theme or nuke itself?

I've got a few sites I help with, and I just helped someone with a new one. The nuke is a fresh install, and in all places where there are <textarea> boxes be it admin sections, or forums, even quick reply there is a seriously horribly lag. Type a sentence and it takes 30 seconds or better for it to fill out on slower machines. I don't have too much of a problem with my 1.6 P4, but that doesn't do anyone with lesser than that anygood. Anyone got any suggestions I could try?

I'm starting to think it's the tiny_mce garbage, is there an easy way to get rid of it?

While that does seem to have gotten rid of the editor, the lag remains. Unfortunately I think it's theme related now, changed themes and it's alright again. Guess I start tomorrow skimming every theme file to find where something out of wack.. Thanks for the help though, if anyone thinks of anything else, please, feel free to let me know.
